Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion will remain in cabinet having been re-elected unopposed to the position of Nationals Senate Leader.
His position was reaffirmed during a meeting of Nationals Senators last night, despite speculation yesterday that the minister was considering stepping down.
The Nationals Leader and Deputy PM Barnaby Joyce is today meeting Malcolm Turnbull to discuss the agreement between the Liberals and Nationals.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten has argued that any Liberal-National Coalition agreement should not be kept secret, saying on Monday that Australians are “entitled to know what deals are being done to constitute the government of Australia.”
Joyce has said his main aspiration is to ensure any agreement “remains confidential”.
A strong Nationals result in the election will see the party pushing for another frontbench position and more say over policy, as they hope to claim up to 23 seats.
