AAP – Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has vowed to stand firm on a new cabinet-approved Adani royalties deal during negotiations with the Indian mining giant.
Following a snap cabinet meeting on Friday, the new framework would see Adani pay every cent of royalties on its $16 billion Carmichael coalmine.
Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Saturday there “will be no change” to the deal as negotiations with Adani continue.
Cabinet’s approval of the new plan brought a week of warring among Labor factions, which was sparked when details of Ms Palaszczuk’s original agreement with the company surfaced.
Under that deal, Adani would have had pay only $2 million a year over the first seven years of the mine’s operation; a move that could have cost Queensland taxpayers up to $320 million.
