A study has suggested the origin of the dingo can be traced to an area between South-East Asia and China.

The study examined past theories for potential entry pathways for dingos and found that four showed a likely route through Malaysia, Indonesia and into Northern Australia.

Dr Melanie Fillios and Professor Paul Tacon have applied for funding with Oxford University and Germany Max Planck University to collect ancient DNA.

Dr Fillios says evidence suggests dingos probably came with hunter gatherers.
