Hundreds of works of rock art have been discovered in the remote West Arnhem region by Aboriginal rangers conducting dry season burn-offs.
Locals have estimated there could be more than 30,000 pieces of art in one area alone.
From what has been revealed so far, the works depict mythical creatures, ancient song lines and first contact with police officers, ships and guns.
Wardekken rangers have been working hard to ensure the art is protected from damage by feral animals and large bushfires that can tear through the region.
Wardekken CEO Shaun Ansell told ABC Darwin ongoing maintenance of the site is extremely important for traditional owners and they will be protected as a part of their cultural heritage for future generations.
