A research professor from Deakin University says the uncertain future of Indigenous communities in West Australia can be attributed to the Government’s negligence during the mining boom.
The WA Government has announced funding certainty for municipal services in remote communities over the next year.
The future of the communities has been in question since the Commonwealth handed back funding responsibility to the State.
Professor Jon Altman says if revenue during the mining boom was invested into many of the communities in question, they would be much more viable and vibrant today.
