Australia’s oldest independent Indigenous publisher is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a call for entries to its first Kestin Indigenous Illustrator Award.

Magabala Books was established in Broome with the objective of restoring, preserving and maintaining Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The winner of the biennial award will receive $10,000, a mentorship and the opportunity to illustrate a children’s book by renowned author and illustrator, Sally Morgan.

Magabala publisher Rachel Bin Salleh says the award will support emerging illustrators to develop their craft.

The award is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people around the country aged 16 and over.
