First Nations cricket history has been made with the selection of Australia’s first National Indigenous womens team.
The squad of 14 will tour India in May and will play two 50 over matches and four T20 games.
The side was selected on the basis of performances at the recent inaugural National Indigenous Cricket Championships in Alice Springs, which featured a record number of female players, in addition to performances at club level across the country.
The side was announced at a reception in Canberra hosted by the Governor General Sir Peter Cosgrove and will be skippered by rising star Ashleigh Gardner (pictured), who’ll have Sally Moylan as vice captain and former ICC Womens Cricketer of the Year Shelley Nitschke by her side as coach.
The tour begins in Delhi on May 20 before moving on to Mumbai.
