A Healthy Welfare Card has rolled out as a trial in the South Australian Town of Ceduna along with surrounding suburbs.

The card is a form of income management proposed within the Creating Parity report by mining magnate Andrew Forrest.

The initiative has drawn major criticisms with multiple proposed test sites rejecting a trial of the card in their town.

The card works much like the Basis Card in the Northern Territory, however holds 80 percent of a person’s welfare payment on a debit card and can be used anywhere where a normal debit card is accepted.

Funds on the card cannot be used for purchases of alcohol or gambling products.
