The Hawthorn footy club have thrown down the gauntlet to the other AFL clubs as finals loom with a hard fought last gasp win over Sydney at the SCG on Thursday night.

In an intriguing encounter that saw the lead change hands nine times over the course of the match, the Hawks managed to stick their noses in front at the right time courtesy of superstar Cyril Rioli’s 52 metre set shot with just 77 seconds left on the clock.

Hawks coach Alistair Clarkson (pictured) says it took all of Rioli’s considerable skill as well as some timely assistance from Mother Nature to get the premiers home.
