Former Wimbledon junior champion Ash Barty (pictured) has had an excellent result in her return to Grand Slam tennis.
After 18 months away from tennis, during which she spent time playing cricket for the Brisbane Heat, the 223 ranked Barty was too good for world No. 50 Annika Beck, winning 6-4 7-5.
It was the first win at the Australian Open for Barty in four attempts and says she hopes her new found maturity will stand her in good stead for rest of the tournament.
