The new mayor of Gladstone has made one of his first acts to have the Indigenous flag flying permanently outside the Regional Council Chambers.
Matt Burnett, who was voted in last week, says it was appropriate the flag flew alongside the Australian and Queensland flags.
Gidarjil man Richard Johnson said Gladstone Regional Council needed to lead the way and set an example for the rest of the community.
Mr Burnett says he would have raised the flag on the day he was sworn in if he had been able.
