The Northern Territory Chief Minister says there is a culture of cover-up within the Northern Territory corrections system.
The comments come following the airing of a 4 Corners report last night which revealed disturbing footage of youth being assaulted, stripped naked and teargassed among other acts of mistreatment towards the detainees which prompted the Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull this morning to announce a royal commission into the matter.
Chief Minister Adam Giles says a culture of cover-up goes back many years.
