Queensland State of Origin hero Dane Gagai (pictured) says he came very close to withdrawing from Wednesday nights series clinching win over the Blues.
Gagai was the three try star for the Maroons as they turned the Origin blowtorch on the Blues left hand defence.
Gagai had been battling a thigh injury coming into the Maroons camp and said it was only due to Queensland coach Kevin Walters and the recovery time he was allowed that gave him the chance to take his position in the Maroons lineup.
