Research Professor at Deakin University Jon Altman says there needs to be a “fundamentally” different government approach to Indigenous Affairs.
The announcement of a double dissolution election to be held on July 2 has started a 56 day election campaign, the longest since the 1960s.
Previously a director of the Centre for Aboriginal Economic Policy Research, Professor Altman’s research focuses on Indigenous policy formation and reform.
He says governments need to be held accountable for their roles in implementing policies for First Nation’s people.
