The Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care have questioned why NT Minister John Elferink is still the minister for children and families following this week’s revelations around the treatment of youth in Darwin’s Don Dale Youth Detention Centre.
A scathing report by ABC’s 4 Corners program this week, which included shocking footage of inhumane treatment towards juvenile detainees, prompted NT Chief Minister Adam Giles commandeer Mr Elferink’s corrections portfolio.
