Geelong champion Paddy Dangerfield (pictured) has won the 2016 Brownlow medal by a record margin of nine votes.

The 26 year olds 35 votes also broke the record for the most votes, beating Dane Swans 34 votes in 2011.

Dangerfield was considered an unbackable favourite going into the night and so it was proven, with the Cats favourite finding some solace in winning the games highest individual honour after the Cats disappointing finish to the season.
