Despite his most devastating running display in recent years, North Queensland skipper Johnathon Thurston (pictured) was quick to highlight the performance of his forwards in the Cowboys 20 – 0 defeat of Souths on Sunday.
The Cowboys big forwards lead by Origin stars Matt Scott and James Tamou lead from the front against the giant Souths pack, giving the captain all the time and space he needed to be at his dominant best.
Thurston was on fire with the ball in hand, running for 144 metres and dummying his way over for the opening try although after the match, he said it was never the plan to run the ball more but with the way his forwards were controlling the ruck, the opportunities were there to be taken.
