TAFE in Cairns put the focus on Thursday’s National Close the Gap Day with a morning tea gathering yesterday.
Joann Pyne, TAFE Queensland North general manager, said she was proud of the organisation’s work to close the gap with equal education opportunities. TAFE Queensland North has an entire faculty dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander studies
We also have indigenous support officers who are on hand to help students reach their study goals.
She said the numbers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at TAFE was a step in the right direction.
“Close to 2000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have enrolled in a course with TAFE Queensland North in 2017,” she said.
“Our programs focus on providing students with practical skills and hands-on training and these are key when it comes to improving employment outcomes and finding pathways into real jobs.”
