The Northern Territory’s Chief Minister has told people who come to Darwin to get drunk to “piss off” back to remote communities.
On Tuesday Adam Giles announced a new alcohol management plan for Alice Springs, which includes point-of-sale intervention at all takeaway outlets.
Mr Giles made the comments when questioned on the effectiveness of the program and the resulting influx of problem drinkers to Darwin.
The comments have been branded as “unprofessional” by the head of the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency, Priscilla Collins.
