In the Northern Territory an Indigenous Ranger Grants program has opened for applications.
The program is part of an initiative pledged by the Northern Territory government in the lead up to the 2016 election.
The grants total just over $10 million, $4.1 million of which will be available over two years for essential items such as vehicles, with the other $6 million to be used to improve and develop conservation practices.
Minister for the Environment Lauren Moss said the many of the ranger groups in the Territory are under-resourced to tackle in the face of the management tasks they face.
There are more than 30 ranger groups operating in the Northern Territory. More than 50 per cent of the land and 85 per cent of the coastline is Aboriginal owned or managed.
Interested Indigenous Ranger Groups can download the guidelines and the appropriate application form(s) at www.denr.nt.gov.au or via forms that will distributed to all Indigenous Ranger Groups. Closing date for applications is 30 September 2017.
