Newly appointed Federal Minister for Aged Care and Indigenous Health Ken Wyatt says he wants to focus on maternal and child health during his term.

A Yamatji man, Mr Wyatt became the first Indigenous Federal minister this week following a cabinet reshuffle after former Health Minister Sussan Ley’s resignation in the wake of an expenses scandal.

Minister Wyatt is also the first Aboriginal man elected to the House of Representatives.

Minister Wyatt says his new position will give him the authority to look at the key issues and work closely with First Nation’s people.

Supporters of Minister Wyatt say he is well qualified to become the next Indigenous Affairs Minister, something he says he would like to take on “when the time is right.”
