A child in detention at the Don Dale Youth Detention Centre was flown to Melbourne over the weekend due to a medical emergency early Sunday morning.
The department of Territory Families has not revealed the nature of the emergency but has stated that support was being given to both the young person and staff involved.
On Sunday afternoon, the department said the child – who was on remand, was stable and expected to make a full recovery.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of Territory Families Janette Kerr said the incident was under investigation.
In a statement she said early investigations indicate that Youth Justice Staff acted appropriately and in the best interests of the young person.
Don Dale is currently under the microscope after an ABC 4 Corners report showed video of children being Tear gassed, Restrained to chairs and hooded at the centre, triggering a royal commission into the protection and detention of children in the Northern Territory which is currently underway.
