A One Nation candidate for Queensland has dumped from the party less than a month after leader Pauline Hanson announced the team she would take to the 2018 state election.

Candidate for Bundamba Shan Ju Lin  was dumped on Saturday evening after she posted on Facebook that “gays should be treated as patients.”

Ms Ju Lin posted the comment in relation to a story about a same-sex couple in the US who faced charges in 2011 over sexual assault of one of their foster children.

Both men were later cleared of all charges.

Ms Ju Lin says she doesn’t believe the comments are homophobic.

Education Minister Simon Birmingham says One Nation has made the right decision.
