Northern Territory Minister for Health and Attorney-General Natasha Fyles will introduce a bill early next year to make access to abortion easier for women.

The Territory has been lagging behind the rest of the country in the area, and remains the only jurisdiction in Australia where all terminations must occur in a public hospital.

Minister Fyles says the new legislation will include the medical abortion drug RU486 – which has been available in other states and territories for ten years.

The opposition party say they support the legislative change in principle and will support the move depending on the details.
