The first female High Court chief justice of Australia has been appointed today – ending 113 years of men leading the nation’s highest court.
Justice Susan Kiefel has been chosen as the replacement for retiring chief Robert French.
Her appointment has been welcomed by President of the Law Council of Australia Stuart Clark, who says Ms Kiefel has been a ‘trailblazer’ for women in the legal profession.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull made the announcement this morning.
