The Australian Securities and Investments Commission is urging mob in First Nations communities to call their Indigenous help line with concerns of fraudulent business practices.

The call comes following a Federal Court ruling finding a Far North Queensland business acted unconscionably in financing and selling cars to First Nations people.

The court found Colin William Hulbert personally liable for the conduct of Channic Pty Ltd and Cash Brokers in financing cars for customers purchasing cars from Super Cheap Car Sales, also owned by Mr Hulbert.

A First Nations woman who is a witness to the case says a car she purchased through the company’s finance wasn’t even roadworthy.

Senior Executive Leader at ASIC, Michael Saadat says their helpline has First Nations people who can help.
