A trial of a new media device is underway in northern Australia with the hopes of promoting local knowledge and media.
The device, which acts as a wireless network hosting media contributed by the local community, is accessible by anyone with a laptop, phone or even a USB stick.
The units developer, Roy Smith says anyone in the community can add media to the device, even without an internet connection.
He says he hopes the unit will be used for residents in remote communities to share and market their own content.
The media hubs are also being used by various remote broadcasters with two units being bought by Mission Australia as well.
