CANBERRA, Sept 5 AAP – Two scientists from Australia’s Climate Change Authority have accused their colleagues of publishing an “untrue and dangerous” report.

Climate scientists David Karoly and Clive Hamilton have taken issue with a report the Authority released on Wednesday, which used the federal government’s 2030 emissions reduction target as its basis.

The pair released their own minority report on Monday, arguing the majority report’s impression that Australia has plenty of time to bring emissions down is “untrue and dangerous”.

The G20 summit wraps up in China today with a final communique issued by host, President Xi Jinping.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and other leaders are set to endorse a new set of rules to guide cross-border investment.

The leaders will also endorse a plan to help developing countries lift themselves out of poverty over the next decade and a half, especially those in Africa.

 

VICTORIAN cabinet minister John Eren is recovering from a Father’s Day heart attack as a temporary replacement is being sought for his portfolios.

Premier Daniel Andrews says the 52-year-old had surgery yesterday and is expected to make a full recovery.

A temporary replacement to take over the ministerial responsibilities for veterans, sport, tourism and major events is expected to be announced soon.

 

 

THE search for a Perth man missing in rough terrain in Western Australia’s mid west Gascoyne region continues today.

Forty-three-year-old Steven Allison left his Clarkson home in his black Nissan X-Trail on Tuesday and his car was discovered more than 500km away on Friday.

Mr Allison has not made contact with any friends or family and search crews including police and SES volunteers will continue their search today.

 

 

A South Australian motorist could be cooked after allegedly using a metal frying pan as a steering wheel.

Police say when he was pulled over they found the man’s car was also unregistered and uninsured.

A 32-year-old Adelaide man has been charged with a number of traffic offences and refused bail ahead of a scheduled appearance in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today.

 

 

THE Queensland opposition says the state government is all talk on its proposed plan to build another casino on the Gold Coast.

Plans are reportedly ongoing for a $3 billion development next to the Sea World site, with James Packer’s Crown Resorts and ASF Consortium understood to be involved in the project.

But the opposition’s Scott Emerson says there are no details in the plan about the number of machines or tables.

 

 

THE Opal freebie taken advantage of by many Sydneysiders is no more.

From today the NSW government is scrapping the free travel, which passengers enjoyed after taking eight trips in a week.

Commuters will now have to pay half-fare after eight trips instead, with the government saying the freebie isn’t sustainable.

 

 

In sport …

AUSTRALIA will be without injured opener Aaron Finch and livewire batsman Chris Lynn for their two-match Twenty20 series with Sri Lanka.

Finch suffered a broken finger while fielding in yesterday’s five-wicket win in Kandy, which sealed a 4-1 series victory in the one-day format.

Lynn missed the match after dislocating his shoulder during a fielding drill in the warm-up.

 

ROOKIE Manly coach Trent Barrett has blamed a wretched run of injuries for the Sea Eagles missing the NRL finals for a second straight season.

Manly were thumped 36-6 by Penrith last night in the final game of the regular season. Barrett says the team will rest now, ahead of a lot of work next year.
