The family of a Noongar man have been left distressed and awaiting answers following his detainment during a medical emergency as he appeared for court.

On Friday Nathan Khan, aged 30, appeared at the Midland District Court and collapsed during his hearing before being escorted out of the court room by guards

Despite attending the hearing with Mr Khan, his family was not notified of his transport to hospital until hours later and were then left to their own devices to locate which hospital he had been sent to.

The family then arrived at the hospital to find Mr Khan in a coma handcuffed to his bed.

Bibbulmun man Mervyn Eades is a family member and head of prisoner release support service Ngulla Maya.

He says the family are questioning the events between his collapse in the court room and arriving at hospital.

NIRS has contacted the West Australian Attorney-General and department of corrections, however we are still waiting for comment.
