The Independent candidate for Nhulunbuy in East Arnhem Land says people in his region are sick and tired of being lied to by the major parties.
Yingiya Mark Guyula’s campaign, which is in its last week before the Territory elections, is pushing for a treaty for Arnhem Land.
Mr Guyula ran in the July 2016 federal election and received 1091 primary votes to Labor’s 922 – which he says is an indication of clear support for a treaty in Arnhem Land.
Mr Guyula says major parties have been turning their backs on Aboriginal people after making election promises for too long.
