This morning on 98.9 FM’s Let’s talk program, Amanda Lickers and Dispossessed band member Birrugan Dunn-Velasco spoke about the ongoing first nations struggles in Canada and the links between Australian and Canadian colonialism.

Onondowa’ga Haudenosaune woman Amanda Lickers is a part of Reclaim Turtle Island, an Indigenous-led environmental activist movement primarily operating in Canada.

Ms Lickers says that although there has been a swing to multiculturalism in Australia, colonialism still persists.

Birrugan Dunn-Velasco is a part of the post-colonial death metal band “Dispossessed” who released their first album ‘Insurgency’ earlier this year.

Mr Dunn-Velasco says that in Australia there is a ‘national psychosis’.
