US police shoot unarmed black carerpolice-light

Police in the United States are bracing for more retaliatory violence after video emerged
overnight of Miami officers shooting an unarmed black man who was lying on the ground trying to help an autistic client.

Charles Kinsey, a disabled caregiver who works at a group home in Miami, can clearly be heard in the video trying to de-escalate the situation, and repeatedly warns police that the man with him is autistic, unarmed and holding a toy truck.

Minutes pass before police shoot Mr Kinsey while he’s lying on the ground with his hands in the air. Mr Kinsey, who survived the shooting, told media when he asked the officer why he shot him, he responded, “I don’t know”.

In the past few weeks, at least eight police officers have been killed in mass shootings by gunmen seeking revenge over the ongoing killing of black people by US police.

Man under guard after police station attack

A man is under police guard in hospital after setting himself alight and driving a fuel-soaked car into a western Sydney police station.

Officers spotted the man in his 60s parked in the driveway of the Merrylands Police Station about 7pm last night.

As they approached the vehicle, he ignited the inside of his car with an accelerant and then rammed into the roller door of the underground car park. Officers extinguished the blaze and dragged the unconscious man from the vehicle into custody about an hour later.

Investigators still don’t know the man’s motive but say there’s nothing to indicate it was related to terrorism. Queensland MP George Christensen has been forced into an embarrassing back down this morning after telling social media late last night “idiots” would claim the attack was not linked to Islam.

An American lawyer who has self-funded his own search for debris from the missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 has taken aim at authorities over the length of time they’ve taken to process dozens of personal items washed up on the shores of Madagascar.

Blaine Gibson told ABC radio he was forced to deliver the belongings, including a large number of handbags and backpacks, to Malaysian police this week after they ignored him for weeks.

The search for MH370, which disappeared in March 2014 with 239 people on board, continues in the Indian ocean, with just 10 per cent of the search area – around 10,000 square kilometres – remaining to searched.

Chinese, Australian and Malaysian authorities said this week if the wreckage is not found once the final section of ocean floor is scanned, it’s unlikely the search area will be extended.

Lost Qld toddler walked 2km from home

A panicked mother has found her missing three-year-old daughter in bushland two kilometres from their southeast Queensland home.

The little girl, who is known to play hide and seek, wandered away from the family’s Haly Creek home about 6pm last night.

Her disappearance sparked a major search involving police, SES volunteers and a helicopter, but it was the girl’s mother who eventually found her about four hours later.

Authorities are surprised at just how far the little girl managed to get in the dark. She wasn’t hurt despite her ordeal and is back with her family.
