The West Australian government has revealed its plans to change the servicing of First Nation’s communities, with minor services to be withdrawn from more than 100 small outstations.
The review, Resilient Families, Strong Communities proposes a focus on funding and support for larger communities.
Regional Development Minister Terry Redman says no-one will be forced to leave smaller stations, although government contributions such as fuel subsidies will be withdrawn.
Minister Redman said they will identify ten of the larger communities by the end of the year which will begin receiving better service delivery of water, power and sewerage.
Deakin University Professor Jon Altman says the state government has not made it clear what future it sees for people who have to relocate to larger communities.
