A Professor at Deakin University says the absence of a result for the weekend’s federal election will give more importance to the role of First Nations parliamentarians.
The outcome of the weekend’s federal election is still unknown and as electoral commission officials continue to count postal votes , a final result may not be known for another week.
So far results, as per the Australian Electoral Commission website, show the Coalition currently on 74 seats to Labor’s 71 leaving a high possibility of a hung parliament.
Professor Jon Altman says First Nations parliamentarians will need to push for the representation of Indigenous issues.
