Gunnai/Kunai treaty advocate Robbie Thorpe (pictured) says Australia must be subjected to an international war crimes commission.
With building pressure for the Government to address a settlement with First Nations people, Mr Thorpe says such a commission must precede a treaty to really clarify what the problem is.
He says Australia fronting up to a war crimes commission would see First Nations people have their day in court.
Mr Thorpe says Australia will remain in a state of undeclared war until an internationally recognised treaty process is undertaken to recognise our sovereignty.
He says throughout the debate, he hasn’t heard of treaties being described as a tool for peace, which is needed for both First Nations people and the wider Australian public.
While it’s while it is currently unknown if Malcom Turnbull will retain the prime ministership, Mr Thorpe warns him if he has any ideas of Australia becoming a republic, he must deal with treaties first.
The comment comes as an independent Australia is suggested following the recent Brexit vote which saw the United Kingdom pull out of the European Union.
The Gunnai/Kunai man says before Australia becomes a republic, the PM needs to go to the Queen and get authorisation to deal in treaties.
