Linda Burney – the newly elected member for Barton in New South Wales and the first Aboriginal woman elected to the federal House of Representatives – has slammed the leader of One Nation, Pauline Hanson, saying she speaks from a position of ignorance.

Hanson, who has been absent from federal politics for almost two decades, has dominated media in the past week, after securing a Queensland seat in Senate, with the potential of winning another three – a second in Queensland, and one each in WA and NSW.

While Ms Hanson hasn’t yet been sworn in, she’s already begun attacking on issues like immigration and Halal foods. Wiradjuri woman Linda Burney told ABC’s Lateline, people don’t have to accept those views.
