The head of the Dumbartung Aboriginal Corporation in West Australia has backed the Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion’s comments that the National Congress of Australia’s First Peoples is not well known by First Nations communities.
This year’s federal budget confirmed Congress will not be receiving any Commonwealth funding from the end of June 2017. It hasn’t been funded by government since the Coalition was elected in 2014.
Minister Nigel Scullion told media that Congress is not a representative body.
Bibbulmun man Robert Eggington says there has been no improvement in areas where Congress should have been active.
