The Shadow Minister for Indigenous Affairs has condemned the one per cent pay rise offered to the government agency Aboriginal Hostels Limited.

Minister Shayne Neumann said the AHL “wants to treat its workers in a fair way” but has been forced to “cost-save” and “cut conditions” for its workers after being offered a pay rise half that of other government agencies.

Minister Neumann said the pay rise shows the government has a long way to go if it wants to be serious about closing the pay gap.

A spokesperson for Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion said “although the AHL is required to work within the broader Government bargaining policy, the details of its pay offer are entirely a matter for the AHL board.”
