An Indigenous mental health commissioner says there is a trend of self-determination in First Nations communities which have low suicide rates if any at all.
Professor Pat Dudgeon from the National Mental Health Commission told Brisbane’s 98.9fm, research on suicide in Canada’s First Nations communities looked at what regions with low rates had that regions with high rates didn’t have.
The Bardi woman from the Kimberley says when applied to our mob back home, it was found that self-determination was lacking in communities with high rates.
