The head of the Euahlayi peoples Republic supports the notion of an Assembly of First Nations but raises questions in how to properly represent hundreds of nations.

An Assembly of First Nations has been proposed at a recent forum to act as a vehicle to drive the treaty movement.

The preferred approach by the National Aboriginal Consultative Commission in the 70’s was to have a national First Nations elected body made up of elected representatives from 46 regions.

Each region was suggested to be made up of the nations that are culturally and linguistically connected, with those nations then electing their regional representative.

Michael Anderson says the problem is that we are trying to establish a Westminster system within an ancient customary system.
