Tourism Central Australia has welcomed Virgin Australia’s announced expansion to Uluru.
The airline has announced new direct routes to Uluru from Brisbane and Melbourne.
There will be three services a week from Brisbane and four per week from Melbourne.
The announcement comes amid ongoing concern about the high cost of air fares in the region with some people paying up to $2000 to travel interstate for Christmas.
Tourism Central Australia Chief Executive Danial Rochford says the move will lead to cheaper fares in the long run.
He told the ABC that airlines have a growing appetite for the Northern territory and its exciting that they are opening more routes to the Territory.
