The Allan Government this week introduced a bill which would raise the age of criminality to 12.
The Human Rights Law Centre says there’s no reason the Victorian Government can’t raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14.
The centre’s also calling on the Victorian Government to make the state’s youth bail laws fairer for children by removing almost all reverse-onus bail provisions, and to abandon the proposed surveilling of children through electronic monitoring.
It also wants the Victorian Government to ban solitary confinement, strip searching and the spit hooding of children.
