RUGBY – Australian Rugby boss Bill Pulver says the new $285 million dollar broadcast deal and the success of Michael Cheika’s World Cup Wallabies is set to reignite Australia’s interest in the 15 a side game.
While the deal is somewhat meagre compared with the massive money being spent for the rights to broadcast the AFL and NRL, it’s a major boost for the ARU’s coffers.
The deal will see Super Rugby on free to air television in Australia for the first time and Pulver says while the deal could have been greater, the code is in for a major boost in Australia.
