Two men from Victoria have dressed in blackface for a party over the weekend causing outrage on social media as a photo of them mimicking traditional Aboriginal people go viral.
Photos from a party themed ‘Aussie Icon’ are being shared numerously across the internet as the Indigenous and non-Indigenous social media community bid to highlight the very current issue of racism in Australia.
The image shows the men’s bodies entirely painted black with coloured markings wearing red lap laps and headbands.
Another person wore blackface on Sunday at the Australian Open tennis match in Melbourne.
The fan’s presentation to be dressed as American tennis player Serena Williams has sparked debates about racism and dress code regulations at sporting events.
Provoking fury within the public, many have labelled the costumes of both incidents racist, insensitive and disrespectful.
