The national peak body for Indigenous child care has welcomed a report recommending significant reform to the early education sector.
The report from the Centre for Policy Development this week recommended providing free or very cheap childcare to every child regardless of their parents’ income.
Key reforms include subsidised childcare which would be free to parents or cost no more than $10 per day, more needs-based support and scrapping the activity test.
Arrernte/Luritja woman Catherine Liddle is the CEO for the Secretariat for National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC).
She says recommendations within the report are ideas that SNAICC has been calling for over a long time.
