Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe says she will pull back her opposition of the Indigenous voice is the federal government commits to implementing recommendations of the Aboriginal Deaths in Custody Royal Commission.

Guardian Australia reports that Senator Thorpe wants the Federal Government to announce action before the referendum date.

Ms Thorpe’s previously said to the government that her stance on the Voice could be influenced by action in addressing Deaths in Custody and implementing the recommendations of the Bringing them Home report into the Stolen Generations.

She says Blak Sovereign Movement will rallying a week before the referendum – calling for action on Indigenous Deaths in Custody.

The public will be voting for an Indigenous voice to parliament on October 14.

Voting in remote communities has already started.
