Debate on the Indigenous voice will go to the public, with parliament passing laws which will set up the referendum.

The Senate today passed the bill finalising the form of the referendum and the proposed constitutional change.

It passed with majority support of 52 Yes to 19 Noes, with some of the Voice’s key architects looking on from the public gallery including Professor Tom Calma, Professor Megan Davis, Pat Anderson AO, and Thomas Mayo.

The Referendum now needs to be held within the next six months, but not within the next two months.
