Aboriginal Financial Counsellor and Strategy Lead at Mob Strong, Debt Help Bettina Cooper says they are seeking a fair resolution for the 30,000 people affected by the collapse of funeral fund Youpla earlier this year in March.
The comment comes as Mob Strong, and the rest of the Save Sorry Business coalition, gather in Canberra for meetings with government members this week, to lobby for greater controls over the sale of financial products.
Last week, the government announced an assistance package, that will cover affected policy holders through to November 30 next year however, it’s estimated that approximately only 500 of the 30,000 members of the collapsed funeral fund may benefit from it.
Ms Copper spoke to NIRS about the government meetings and says if they don’t get a fair resolution for everyone, First Nations people will continue to be socially disadvantaged.
