Queensland’s Truth-Telling and Healing inquiry will pause as it waits to hear more about its future.
Chairperson of the inquiry, Waanyi and Kalkadoon man Joshua Creamer says he has not heard from the new government since it was elected last weekend.
One of the very few times LNP leader David Crisafulli spoke on Indigenous issues during the election campaign was to announce his intention to shut down the truth-telling inquiry.
The premier says he doesn’t believe embarking on that process will be one that unites the community, but we do believe we can do so much more.
Mr Creamer says “It must be noted that this is unprecedented. It is unheard of that an independent Inquiry be shut down by a change of government.
If the Inquiry is formally stopped it will be a lost opportunity for the state.
He says we are not going to get another opportunity at this in the next decade, two decades, in my lifetime”.
