Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner says the Territory’s borders will be shut to Victoria indefinitely.

The move comes as Victoria recorded another 134 coronavirus cases overnight and after NSW made the historic decision to shut its borders with Victoria at midnight on Tuesday.

Residents of Melbourne have been ordered back into a six-week lockdown in a bid to slow the spread of the virus in Victoria.

The Northern Territory borders were set to reopen on July 17 but faced calls from the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance for an extension over concerns for Indigenous communities.

Minister Gunner made the announcement on Wednesday morning.
